the foundation
fondazionemarionanni, established by maestro marionanni on july 21, 2025, is a non profit organization that places craftsmanship at the center as a universal language. it opens itself to the world as a cultural movement, a school, and an archive, to preserve and spread the master’s work and thought, while fostering the personal, cultural, and professional growth of the designers of the future.
it is a place where knowledge is passed on, structures are broken, experimentation happens, and creation takes shape, where design becomes a conscious, ethical, and sustainable process, capable of transforming every daily gesture into an act of shared beauty.
the foundation’s mission unfolds across five dimensions:
- preservation and promotion of the work of master marionanni
- education, through the educational programs of marionannischolé, which intertwine art, philosophy, architecture, science, and new technologies to train the new writers of light, universal designers;
- research, as a field of experimentation that unites theory and practice, promoting laboratories, workshops, collaborations, and residencies with artists, architects, and scientists;
- incubator of ideas, which welcomes and nurtures young designers, offering tools and opportunities to turn intuitions into concrete and sustainable projects;
- archive-exhibition “thelighyoudon’tknow”, a living and evolving archive dedicated to the dialogue between natural and artificial light — a shared heritage for the culture of light and innovation.
fondazionemarionanni is therefore a living community, a permanent workshop where knowledge becomes vision, and vision becomes action.
the movement
from the thought and the will of marionanni, on the second of february 2025, candlemas day, the movement of the scrittoredellaluce was born in bologna, a movement that sets out to change the paradigms of design, thus creating a new profession,
the work of the future: the scrittoredellaluce®.

nel 1994 fonda viabizzuno, azienda con cui ridefinisce il linguaggio della luce nel progetto e nell’arte, che guida fino al 2022. nel 2023 apre il suo studio marionanni all’interno del museo virgola di bologna, dove continua la sua ricerca e la sua attività di insegnamento.
forte del suo pensiero progettarevocedelverboamare, che unisce tecnica, filosofia e poesia, da oltre cinquant’anni scrive con la luce per architetti, artisti e istituzioni di tutto il mondo.
ha scritto la luce per il mosè di michelangelo nella chiesa di san pietro in vincoli a roma, per le tombe medicee a firenze, per casa batllò a barcellona e per la royal academy of arts a londra. ha firmato la regia, la luce e la scenografia dell’opera luisa miller di giuseppe verdi, e ha curato le luci di mostre come van gogh: l’uomo e la terra a palazzo reale, milano, e i marmi torlonia. collezionare capolavori ai musei capitolini di roma.
ha illuminato il complesso della basilica di santo stefano a bologna e realizzato poesie di luce per il teatro alla scala e per il palazzo della civiltà italiana a roma.
è stato invitato a esporre per due edizioni alla biennale d’arte e una di architettura di venezia, e ha tenuto mostre personali alla triennale di milano, a villa e collezione panza e al palazzo ducale di sassuolo.
nel 2024, insieme a paolo rizzatto, vince il compasso d’oro per la lampada figaroqua figarolà.
le sue opere sono presenti in musei e collezioni pubbliche e private in italia e nel mondo.
paola candiani
paola candiani nasce e cresce a milano dove nel 1981 si laurea in architettura al politecnico di milano con 100/100 lode, con il prof. marco zanuso.
dai primi anni di università comincia una collaborazione negli studi di architettura di paolo tilche, del centro disegno ambientale, di vittorio borachia, e altri, partecipando a numerosi concorsi di architettura nazionali e internazionali, ricevendo diverse menzioni.
contemporaneamente collabora con goffredo fofi per la rivista letteraria linea d’ombra e scrive insieme a silvio soldini la sceneggiatura del film “l’aria serena dell’ovest”.
nel 1999 dopo significative esperienze di progettazione e direzione lavori comincia una collaborazione con il fai, seguendo come project manager i cantieri di restauro e rifunzionalizzazione di villa panza a varese, di villa gregoriana a tivoli, e di altri beni.
nel 2005 diventa dirigente presso il fai con il ruolo di responsabile della gestione dei beni, e nel 2010 diventa responsabile dell’area beni, per poi essere nominata direttore dei restauri e della conservazione, con la responsabilità di sovrintendere la realizzazione dei progetti di restauro e di manutenzione straordinaria che riguardano i 75 beni vincolati acquisiti dal fai.

group made up of young people aged 18 to 30, involved in the goal of bringing innovative ideas, proposing new dreams and visions to the board of directors, and stimulating the active participation of new generations. the dialogue between elders and young people keeps the balance of the community alive. it collaborates with the other committees to propose dynamic activities and initiatives.
scientific committee
composed of experts and scholars in the field of design, the world of the arts, and the world of craftsmanship, it ensures the accuracy, quality, and authority of the scientific and practical contents related to exhibitions, projects, and publications. it supervises research, texts, and educational materials.
archiviomostra committee
operational body responsible for the management and practical implementation of the permanent exhibition lalucechenonconosci, from the design of the exhibition setups to the selection of the exhibition contents, coordinating artists, curators, and suppliers.
